Tech Bits: Have a #CyberSafeSemester this October - Part 3

So far this October we have shared how to Own ITSecure IT and now it is time to Protect IT with part 3 of our National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) Tech Bit.

  • Protect your identity. Continue to be vigilant for phishing messages and report them. These tricky messages are often disguised as mail from a familiar office or colleague with an eye-catching subject such as TEMPLE PART-TIME JOBS OPPORTUNITY. The phony sender is trying to get you to click on a link that takes you to a fake login page or great advertising deal. They're hoping that you fall for it and enter your information, so they get access to your accounts and personal information and use it in malicious ways.

Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Always think before you click any links or respond to a message, especially with login or personal information. Also, keep in mind that Temple will never ask you to reply to a message with your password or personal information via email.

If you think you received a phishing message, don't hesitate to forward it to abuse@temple.edu and ask. You can help us spot these messages so we can alert others on Temple's systemstatus.temple.edu page.
