Tech Bits: Enable Microsoft Teams Calling for Your Temple Phone

You may already use Microsoft Teams to collaborate with your co-workers, but did you know that you can also use Teams to make and receive calls?

When placing calls via Teams, recipients will see the phone number you have selected for outbound calls. Upon activation, you can specify days and times that you would like to receive calls.

Teams Calling is compatible with the Teams desktop, mobile (iOS and Android), and web app.

Enabling Teams Calling for Temple Phones

To start using Teams Calling, you will need to activate the service for your Temple phone number:

  1. Log into TUportal and click the Telecom Self-Service link under TUapplications.
     
  2. Microsoft Teams Calling is currently highlighted as a new feature on the Telecom Self-Service page. Click the Click here to get started... link. Alternatively, locate the toolbar on the top of the page and select Telephones, then Microsoft Teams Calling.
     
  3. You will be asked to review the Microsoft Teams Calling agreement and confirm your Temple phone number. Once you check all required boxes, click Enable Teams Calling. Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for Teams Calling to become active.

Making Calls

After Teams Calling has been enabled, you can easily make calls by opening Microsoft Teams and clicking Calls on the left navigation bar. Type a phone number or the name of one of your contacts when the dial pad appears.

Creating Contact Groups

To call a group, simply type multiple names and/or phone numbers. If you call the same group of people frequently, you may want to create a contact group for quick access.

  1. Click Calls on the left navigation bar.
     
  2. On the right side of the page, click + next to Contact Groups.
     
  3. Give your new contact group a name, then click Create.
     
  4. The group you created will now appear under Contact Groups. Select the group and click the ellipsis (). Click Add a contact to this group.

Accessing Your Temple Voicemail

Now that you have activated Teams Calling, we recommend that you also submit a TUhelp voicemail request form to set up forwarding your voicemail messages to your Temple email account.

When someone leaves you a voicemail, you will receive an email from UnifiedMessaging@mail.temple.edu with a .wav sound file attached. Click the file to play or download the message.
