On December 9, 2024, the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Student Diversity Council hosted its third annual North Philly Flex, a vibrant event dedicated to uplifting Black and Brown entrepreneurs in the North Philadelphia community. Vendors lined the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Medical Education and Research Building Commons, showcasing everything from handmade jewelry to flavorful culinary creations while fostering a sense of community and empowerment. 

 

Owls, congratulations on working hard through this fall semester! Before you leave for winter break, we have created a checklist to help you prepare before you leave:

  • Lock all doors and windows
  • Close curtains and blinds
  • Keep valuables out of sight
  • Unplug electronics
  • Use timers for interior & exterior lights
  • Do not prop open exterior doors
  • Pause mail delivery or entrust a friend to collect it for you
  • Remember to lock your car doors
  • Store your bike in a secure interior location or take it home
  • Set heat to 52°F or higher

🔔REMINDER:

🚐The Flight Shuttle service will operate on a modified schedule during winter break. There will be no service on Dec. 23, Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Dec. 31.

👮 Students are encouraged to use the Walking Escort Program. Call 8-WALK (8-9255) from a campus phone or 215-777-9255 to request a security escort.

⛄The University will close for winter break at the end of business Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, and will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. Students and employees from graduate and professional schools should refer to their school’s academic calendar for more specific scheduling information.

Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Temple Health Office for Continuing Medical Education will present the 23rd Annual Highlights of the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the Philadelphia Marriott Old City, One Dock Street in Philadelphia. This educational program is designed to help medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists, gynecologists, and radiologists translate the data from key presentations of the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium into practice.

Led by program director Angela Jain, MD, speakers will include faculty from both Fox Chase and Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center who will discuss new options for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer and premalignant breast disease, as well as new strategies for optimizing existing treatments.

New This Year: Poster Session and Awards

We invite students, residents, fellows, and faculty (less than 5 years from completing their training) to submit abstracts on basic science, translational research, or clinical research in breast cancer. Abstract submissions are due by Monday, December 9th.
