Tech Bits: Mix Portrait & Landscape Pages in One Word Document

Ever worked on a Word document and thought a specific page would look nice in landscape orientation instead of portrait? Maybe you want to insert a bar graph in your report or artwork into a portfolio.

Don't compromise the visual elements in your document by locking them in portrait orientation. Easily convert those specific pages into landscape in a few easy steps.

Windows/PC:

  1. Open the document you would like to work on, and highlight/select the text or graphic elements you would like to accommodate onto a landscape page. A good example of what to accommodate is a wide photo or graphic in your document that you feel would display better on a landscape page.
  2. Go to the Layout menu and click on Margins, then Custom Margins at the bottom of the drop down.
  3. In the Page Setup window that opens up, find Orientation and click Landscape
  4. Then click the drop down box next to Apply to: and click the Selected Text option.
  5. Click OK to convert the selected text into landscape orientation.

Mac:

  3. In the Document window, click the drop down box next to Apply to: and click the Selected Text option. Then click Page Setup
  4. In the Page Setup window, next to Orientation, click the Landscape icon, then click OK
  5. Once you return to the Document window, click OK to convert the selected text into landscape orientation.
